"In all of living, have much fun and laughter. Life is to be enjoyed, not just endured." President Gordon B. Hinckley

"If you are still in the process of raising children, be aware that the tiny fingerprints that show up on almost every newly cleaned surface, the toys scattered about the house, the piles and piles of laundry to be tackled will disappear all too soon and that you will--to your surprise--miss them profoundly." President Thomas S. Monson

Draper Days Carnival

I had a few quilts that I made on display at Draper Days, not because they were spectacular or anything. Just because my friend needed some, but I think my girls were excited to see the blankets that I grabbed off their beds the night before!

Draper Children's Parade

Kiara insisted on wearing her swim goggles to ride her bike in the parade. She didn't want me to take her training wheels off her bike, but she has come a long ways this summer. In the parade she rode without pedals (like a Strider). The parade was fun until Kiara turned too sharply on her bike, fell, and the handlebar went in her mouth. Her little goggles hung around her neck and filled up with blood. Some really nice moms helped me and brought us ice. There are still good people on this earth.
Ava had a nice shady ride in the wagon.

Kate is enjoying Kiara's old bike with training wheels.

Draper Rodeo

One of our family's traditions for the last 8 years or so has been to go to the Draper Rodeo and Draper Days. I was too late to sign up the girls for mutton busting. I think they were kind of relieved. Does anyone be on a wild cow milking team with Dereck next year?

The views from the Draper Equestrian Center are always stunning.
Kiara and Kate did run around chasing the "cash cow".

Splashing Around

One of the beauties of summer is a splash pad. I wish we had one closer to home! We took the girls downtown to the Gateway and they had a blast getting wet.

Mary Poppins

This year our little dancers were in the Utah Dance Center's production of Mary Poppins at Abravanel Hall. It's one of the highlights of our year to see them on the stage.

Happy Birthday, Princess Kate!

I Feel Like Overdosing on Chocolate Ice Cream!

Today I am ready for school to start! I have loved our summer. We have had many fun vacations, lots of company (including Mathilde from Paris, France for the summer), and many carefree mornings with no plans for the day. But today, I am ready to kiss summer goodbye. My morning started with waking up in the basement bed with Ava because it turns out that not even a king is big enough for 2 adults and 1 wiggly toddler. We finally got into a doctor yesterday to try to figure out why Ava is so itchy all the time. I am hoping we can take care of her and get her sleeping through the night (is that so much to ask of a 20 month old?). Kiara and Kate were already awake by 7:15 despite their late bedtime and they were eating Lucky Charms on the front porch with their sweet daddy. Dad left and it was time for me to take hold of our carefree home, buckle down, and get ready for school. My efforts to do reading a math every day with Kiara and Kate have been sporadic to put it positively, but with only 12 more days, I am feeling the pressure to have my children ready to face their classes and academics.

Kiara threw about a 2 hour fit about reading and math and was convinced that I was the meanest mom in the whole world (resulting in her defenses of kicking, hitting, and all out screaming). While dealing with Kiara's "girl power", Ava unrolled half of my dental floss, took off her diaper, and peed on the couch. Kate built a fort with all of the neatly folded blankets. Kiara broke a jar on the tile floor. Help! I need ice cream! And school! (In 12 more days I will be crying to have my children back at home with me. I wonder where Kiara gets her volatile emotions. Did Dereck tell you that I cried the other day because he wanted to go out for a hamburger for our lunch date? I'm pathetic. I need ice cream.)

Island Park, Part 2

Island Park

For the past 12 years or so we have made a voyage to Teton Village near Jackson, Wyoming with all of my dad's extended family. This year we went to Island Park, Idaho instead (near West Yellowstone). It was neat to go back to where my dad used to go as a kid: Big Sp
rings, Henry's Lake, Island Park Resevoir. I think it was kind of nostalgic for him. We had a great time despite the temps in the 40's and the snow banks still prevalent. I love my family and I love that it doesn't take a lot for us to have a good time. I think I got shot a few too many times by Zach's marshmallow gun though.

I told you there was lots of snow. This is the church parking lot:

It turns out that cold, spring weather makes for a great time to see wildlife!
We saw lots of these:

and even some of these (I hope it's not the same mother grizzly that did this):
